Parliament approves to appoint Dr. Farahanaz as IMO Ambassador

The parliament has approved to appoint Dr. Farahanaz Faisal as the Maldives’ ambassador to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih earlier forwarded Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Farahanaz’s name for parliament consideration for the post. She was approved for the post with 54 members voting in her favour.

IMO is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.

Farahanaz, who is also the non-resident ambassador to Ireland, Spain and France, was the first woman in the Maldives to attain a PhD. She is the granddaughter of the Maldives’ first President, Mohamed Ameen.
