HPA brings changes to restaurant service hours

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has made amendments to its COVID-19 guidelines such that cafes’ and restaurants in the Greater Male’ Area can offer services until 10:30 pm.

The directive issued by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Abubakuru said cafes and restaurants can stay open for takeaway and delivery services until 10:30 pm. As of last night, cafes and restaurants were required to close to dine-in customers by 8pm, and were allowed to offer delivery and takeaway services until 10:30 pm after obtaining a special permit from HPA. HPA last night had issued a directive extending the order for four additional days before bringing an amendment on Sunday morning.

Cafes’ and restaurants have been making complaints at HPA regarding the strict regulations, and many have said they are on the brink of bankruptcy due to the measures.
