Chinese amb pays farewell call on the Pres Solih

The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr Zhang Lizhong has paid his farewell call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ambassador paid his farewell call on the president at the President’s Office on Wednesday morning.

During the call, President Solih conveyed greetings and good wishes to the Ambassador and expressed gratitude for his continued support and assistance to the Maldives during his tenure as the Ambassador.

The President highlighted that China has been a longstanding developmental partner to the Maldives and remains a close friend and ally, noting the generous assistance and the continued support rendered by the Ambassador as well as the Government of China to the Maldives. The President praised the Chinese government for their generous contribution in providing 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine and other medical equipment to assist the Maldives in rolling out mass vaccination.

The President and Ambassador highlighted the several spheres in which the Maldives and China presently cooperate: in socioeconomic development, tourism, health, trade and investments, among a multitude of other bilateral and multilateral engagements.

The Ambassador expressed that it has been his pleasure to serve the Chinese government as their chosen representative to the Maldives. The President wished the Ambassador well in all of his future endeavours.

Ambassador Zhang arrived in the Maldives in August 2017 and is the third ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives following the opening of the Chinese Embassy in Male’ in 2011.
