Maldives' President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that discussions on strengthening COVID-19 measures will take place on Sunday.
In a tweet posted on Sunday, the president expressed concern over the archipelago's current COVID-19 situation. The country has been reporting a significant spike in COVID-19 infections, and reported a new single-day record in daily cases over the past 24 hours. According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 508 people tested positive for the virus, including 276 cases in capital Male', bringing the country's tally to 30,745.
The president's tweet called on the public to pay more attention in adhering to the current measures in place. It further said discussions are ongoing to enhance the current measures.
HPA has prohibited non-essential inter-island movement under efforts to minimize the spread of the virus.
