The COVID-19 situation in Lh. Naifaru has shown improvement.
Naifaru was put under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status on March 23 and has remained under monitoring since then.
The number of active cases in Naifaru has fallen below 50 and has remained so for the past five days. While 49 cases were active on Monday and 45 on Tuesday, the number fell further to 39 on Wednesday. It declined to 25 on Thursday and was at 20 on Friday.
President of Naifaru Council Mohamed Rasheed said random samples are being taken to assess the true extent of the situation in Naifaru. 300 samples will be taken for this purpose. The council hopes to have the monitoring mechanisms lifted sometime next week if the results from the random samples are encouraging. All residents of the island are cooperating with the measures in place and wish to improve the island's condition, he added.
