The Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring mechanisms are likely to be lifted from Lh. Naifaru sometime next week, the island council has said.
Naifaru island has been under HPA monitoring since March 23. President of Naifaru Council Mohamed Rasheed said while the island's COVID-19 situation has improved significantly since then, HPA has asked for 100 random samples to be taken from the island. If no samples test positive, monitoring mechanisms will be lifted from the island, said Rasheed.
A random sample last tested positive on the island last month. While 14 days passed since the sample was taken on July 4th, 85 samples have been taken since then to reach 100 random samples. The results are pending, and are expected next week, said Rasheed. Only three cases are active on the island at this time.
The latest statistics from Lh. atoll hospital show a total of 921 positive cases have been recorded from Naifaru to date.
