Department of National Registration (DNR) has stated that expired National Identity cards can be used until the end of August 2020.
Strict measures have been imposed due to the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives, which makes it difficult for the public to renew their ID cards in a timely manner. DNR said expired cards can be used until the end of August as the department wishes to ease the difficulties faced in providing services due to delays in renewing ID cards. DNR instructed all entities that provide services to the public to be mindful of the extension granted.
DNR added that those residing in the Greater Male' Area, as well as those employed at resorts, have the option to apply for new ID cards online.
