Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States and the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, Thilmeeza Hussain has been appointed as the Special Envoy of the President of the UN General Assembly.
Maldives' Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid was elected as the President of the 76th UNGA earlier this week. In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Shahid announced that he appointed Thilmeeza as the Special Envoy of the PGA, and Ambassador Nagaraj Naidu Kumar as his Chef Du Cabinet. Shahid said both individuals will be instrumental in delivering his vision as the President of the 76th UNGA.
The United Nations General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, serving as the main deliberative, policy-making, and representative organ of the UN. The President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA) is responsible for chairing the United Nations General Assembly session for the elected term and is also the presiding officer for this duration. Furthermore, the PGA represents the whole membership at conferences, other international and regional meetings, and can co-host events with Member States and other partners.
