Nasheed undergoes additional surgery in Germany

Speaker of the Parliament and former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has undergone an additional surgery in Germany.

Nasheed was taken to ADK Hospital in Maldives' capital Male' on the night of May 6 after he sustained serious injuries in an explosion near his residence in Male'. According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the blast occurred when an IED strapped to a motorcycle was detonated. Multiple critical surgeries were performed on Nasheed at ADK Hospital, and he is currently recuperating from his injuries in Germany. He was admitted and treated at a German military hospital and has since been released. However, his treatment continues.

Nasheed's family Friday said Nasheed underwent an additional surgery on Friday. According to the family, the surgery was performed on his leg. However, no further details were shared.

37 days have passed since the night of the attack, and five arrests have been made in connection to the terror attack thus far. The police have released the identities of four out of the five suspects. They are Adhuham Ahmed (25), Mujaz Ahmed (21), Thahmeen Ahmed (32) and Ahmed Fathih (23).
