Maldives Police Service has stated that large groups of people will not be allowed to gather together to watch sporting events. The police made the announcement in a message sent to local media following reports of groups organizing such events to watch the UEFA Euro Championship.
Large screens are usually set up in empty grounds to coincide with global sporting events such as the Euro Championship and the World Cup. While the Euro Championship kicked off on Friday night, the police said practicing similar trends this year during the current COVID-19 situation is risky and unsafe. While the current measures in place do not allow for large gatherings to be held, the police would not allow the opportunity to hold any such events, said the police.
