Nasheed's bodyguard to undergo surgery

Speaker of the Parliament and former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed's bodyguard, Sergeant Ahmed Ilham will be undergoing a surgery on Tuesday, Nasheed's family has said.

Ilham sustained injuries in the May 6 blast that targeted Speaker Nasheed. According to Nasheed's brother, Nazim Abdul Sattar, Sergent Ilham is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery on Tuesday for injuries sustained in the blast. The surgery will take place at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Nasheed was taken to ADK Hospital in Maldives' capital Male' on the night of May 6 after he sustained serious injuries in an explosion near his residence in Male'. According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the blast occurred when an IED strapped to a motorcycle was detonated. Nasheed's security team, which included SPG officers, also sustained injuries during the May 6 attack.

Multiple critical surgeries were performed on Nasheed at ADK Hospital, and he is currently recuperating from his injuries in Germany. He was admitted and treated at a German military hospital and has since been released. However, his treatment continues.
