Police reveals identity of fifth blast suspect

The police have revealed the identity of the fifth person arrested in connection to the May 6 blast that targeted Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

While five suspects have been arrested thus far, the police earlier disclosed the identitied of four out of the five men. They are Adhuham Ahmed (25), Mujaz Ahmed (21), Thahmeen Ahmed (32), and Ahmed Fathih (23). The police later revealed that a fifth person was arrested on June 6. Disclosing the profile of the fifth suspect, police Wednesday said the suspect is a 27-year old named Ali Haisham from N. Manadhoo. Haisham has been remanded into custody twice since his arrest. His remand period was most recently extended by 15 days on June 27.

Nasheed was taken to ADK Hospital in Maldives' capital Male' on the night of May 6 after he sustained serious injuries in an explosion near his residence in Male'. According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the blast occurred when an IED strapped to a motorcycle was detonated. Multiple critical surgeries were performed on Nasheed at ADK Hospital, and he is currently recuperating from his injuries in Germany.

Revealing updates on the probe into the terrorist attack on President Mohamed Nasheed, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during a press conference held Tuesday said the investigations were proceeding swiftly and that he was closely monitoring the progress of the inquiries.
