Parliament approves to appoint Niyazy as Auditor General

The Parliament Thursday approved to appoint Hussain Niyazy for appointment as the Auditor General.

In the vote taken on the matter, Niyazy received the backing of all MPs who took part in the vote. He received 63 votes in favor of his appointment.

Niyazy was nominated for the Auditor General post after former Auditor General Hassan Ziyath resigned from the post on May 12. His name was sent for parliament approval on June 30th, and the parliament's public finance committee approved the nomination.

Niyazy has worked in the Auditor General's Office for over 18 years He has served as Assistant Auditor General for the past nine years. During this time, he has worked with four Auditor Generals to increase the technical capacity of the office and to improve strategic audit management.

Niyaz is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIAM), as well as a fellow member and council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives. He plays an important role in the efforts to develop private sector accountancy and audit profession in the Maldives.
