A vehicle ban will be in effect in the Greater Male' Area for four hours on Eid-al-Adha.
Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said only pedestrians will be allowed on the streets between 04:00 pm and 08:00 pm. The vehicle-free hours will be implemented in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale'.
Muizzu said the decision was reached after discussion with the Traffic Police, and that public opinion was sought before deciding on designating vehicle-free hours. A poll was also taken among the public to decide the timing during which the vehicle ban will be in effect, said Muizzu.
The City Council said vehicle-free hours were designated for Eid day as a way to make the day more enjoyable for the public. He asked the public to cooperate with the decision. The council also urged the public to adhere to the measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vehicle-free windows have been implemented in Male' City on Eids and other such festivals in recent years.
