Hulhumale municipal services transfered to Male' City Council

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to transfer Hulhumale' municipal services under the governance of the Male' City Council. The decision was reached during Sunday's Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet decision reflects a key promise made by President Dr. Muizzu during the presidential campaign to transfer Hulhumale' municipal services to the Male' City Council within the initial 100 days of the administration.

In a post on social media platform X, President Dr. Muizzu announced that the municipal services in Hulhumale' will be run by the Male' City Council effective from today in accordance with the Decentralization Act.

“The Cabinet today decided to transfer the municipal services of Hulhumale to the Male City Council as clearly stated in the law,” Muizzu said.

The President said the municipal lands, employees, and other assets currently administered by Urbanco will be transferred to the city council within the next month. He assured that despite the organizational change, all employees will continue to receive their existing salaries and allowances for a one-year period.
