President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Sunday officially inaugurated the construction phase of the road development project at Hanimaadhoo Island of South Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
The President operated the road development machinery during the inauguration ceremony officially initiate the construction work. The project, spearheaded and funded by the government, is being carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The Hanimaadhoo Road Development project was signed between MTCC and the Planning Ministry in May 2019. The project is estimated to cost MVR 71.9 million. The project involves the development of 20 roads in the island, 6.4 kilometers in total, paved with asphalt and upgraded efficiently. It also includes the installation of street lights, the establishment of a stormwater management system as well as installation of signboards and road markings.
Speaking at the ceremony, MTCC's CEO Adam Azim said the company completed and handed over the most number of projects in its history over the past two years. The company's projects are being implemented as per the direction of President Solih, said Azim.
