Gov't employees asked to complete COVID-19 vaccination

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed all government employees and those working at state-owned companies to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to a circular sent to government entities on Monday, enough doses of vaccine are now available in the Maldives to fully vaccinate the entire eligible population against COVID-19. Therefore, all employees are urged to make use of the opportunity and get vaccinated, the circular said. It further stressed the importance of getting vaccinated in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Discussions are ongoing to grant eases to government employees who complete the full vaccine dose. Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has said unvaccinated individuals will not be allowed in school premises effective from September.

268,244 people have received the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine thus far, which is over 50 percent f the eligible population. Four different vaccines are being used in the Maldives' vaccination program. They are the Indian-manufactured COVISHIELD vaccine, China's Sinopharm vaccine, Pfizer vaccine and AstraZeneca vaccine.
