President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the state will kick off its COVID-19 vaccination program for school students next week.
Speaking at a press conference held Wednesday, President Solih said the country has achieved a new normal after battling COVID-19. He said that the state's target is to acquire enough vaccines to inoculate the country's entire population and vaccinate the public against the virus.
The president stressed that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is the most important work that can be done against COVID-19. In this regard, the state has successfully acquired enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize all children in the Maldives between the ages of 12 and 17 years, the president announced. Vaccination for children above the age of 12 years would commence next week, and the state hopes to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of this month, he added.
287,599 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. The president called on the public to get vaccinated at the earliest.
