Maldives Police Service Monday arrested a 40-year old man for posting death threats on social media, against Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed is currently in the United Kingdom after having been a target of a terror attack last May, during which he sustained serious injuries. The man, identified as Ismail Yafis Bin Khalid, posted on social media that he would harm the former president of the Maldives if he returned to the Maldives. According to the police, he has now been arrested in R. Meedhoo.
Nasheed has voiced reluctance to return to the Maldives before the investigation into the May 6 attack is fully concluded. He has requested the Parliament to extend his leave such that he is able to remain abroad for the time being.
