Maldives removed from UK red list

The Maldives has been removed form the UK's Travel Red List.

The Maldives' low positivity rate and high vaccination rates led authorities to believe the tourism-dependent archipelago would be removed from the UK's red list. However, the island nation remained on the red list for the past four weeks.

In the latest review of the list, the Maldives has finally been removed from the list and moved up to the Green list. The tourism sector is expected to improve with the new development.

After battling a devastating wave of COVID-19 infections, the Maldives is now recording a low number of daily positive cases. Out of the 3,109 samples tested over the past 24 hours, 84 tested positive. 37 cases were from capital Male' and an equal number of cases were identified from inhabited islands. 9 cases were reported from operational resorts.

The Maldives has been running a successful vaccine campaign, having fully vaccinated 330,022 individuals thus far. 390,3644 individuals have received the first dose of the vaccine to date.
