Deceased officer's body brought back to Maldives

The body of deceased MNDF officer, Lance Corporal Mohamed Sultan has been brought to the Maldives.

Lance Corporal Sultan, 22, passed away on Saturday in Pune, India while completing an endurance run at Pune National Defense Academy's Camp Green Horn. He was taken to the hospital at 1:58 pm after he collapsed during the exercise. He had already passed away when he was bought to the hospital.

According to MNDF, the officer's body was brought to Maldives at 12:35 pm on Monday. Funeral arrangements are ongoing. A media official from MNDF said the officer will be buried with full honours, and that the funeral prayers will be held after Maqrib prayers.

Lance Corporal Sultan joined military service on April 8, 2018. He was taking part in the 145th Officer Cadet Training Court at Pune National Defense Academy. The course, which began on March 1 this year, is scheduled to end on March 15, 2024. Prior to joining the training exercise, Sultan served at Integrated Headquarters (J-1), MNDF said. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal while undergoing training in India.  Indian authorities conducted a postmortem on his body and are investigating the cause of his death.
