The Home for People with Special Needs located in K. Guraidhoo has been put under lockdown due to an outbreak of COVID-19 at the center.
A statement issued by the Gender Ministry said entry and exit from the center has been controlled since October 23. It further said the medical team at the center are taking measures as per the advise of Guraidhoo Health Center and the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
All employees and patients at the center have been tested for COVID-19, said the statement. Those at the center are being monitored regularly, and treatment is given to those who require it, the ministry said. While those who tested positive for COVID-19 have been moved to COVID-19 treatment facilities, the rest are in isolation at the center.
Earlier on Sunday morning, Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi met with senior officials of the enter, and the heads of the island council and health center to discuss the center's situation.
The Maldives recorded 225 positive cases over the past 24 hours, out of which 39 cases were identified in the capital, Male' city. From the 153 cases recorded in the atolls, 86 were from Guraidhoo.
