An arrest has been made in connection to the sexual abuse of a four-year-old student at Galolhu Preschool.
AVAS has learned that the police made the arrest on Monday night. The police media official confirmed that a 63-year-old woman had been arrested under a court order in connection to the case. No further details were provided.
Heavy criticism was aimed at Maldives Police Service for the delay in identifying and arresting the perpetrator - a school employee. All janitorial staff of the school has been placed under suspension amid the investigation of the case.
While the Parliament's Human Rights Committee is looking into the case, senior officials from the Education Ministry, the Gender Ministry, and Maldives Police Services will be summoned to the committee.
