A man has been arrested for the sexual abuse of a young girl in a northern island of the Maldives,
Maldives Police Service said they were investigating a case of a person in a position of trust sexually abusing a girl below the age of 18 in an island in the north police region. The north police region covers Noonu, Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani atoll.
The police said a 40-year-old local male had been arrested in relation to the case. The court ordered for the man to be held in custody pending the outcome of trial.
AVAS has learned that the man abused his stepdaughter.
