The 63-year-old woman arrested in connection to the sexual abuse of a preschooler has been released.
The police arrested the woman, an employee of the school, on Monday night. The police said she was released after the Prosecutor General's Office expressed that the suspect should not be kept in custody. The woman was released on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after her arrest.
The police said the investigation would continue despite the suspect being released.
A four-year-old child enrolled at Galolhu School in capital Male' was abused by a school janitorial staff who had helped the child clean up after using the bathroom. The police had difficulties in identifying which janitorial staff handled the child. The delay in making an arrested had directed heavy public criticism towards the police.
