Unlikely that deceased nurse committed suicide: Police

Maldives Police Service has said the IGMH nurse Mary Grace's death is unlikely to have been caused by suicide.

Mary Grace's death was reported as a suicide by her husband. The police started investigating the Filipino nurse's death on October 19 after flagging suspicions related to her death. Mary Grace's husband, who is also a registered nurse working at IGMH, was arrested the following day and remanded in custody for 15 days. Authorities also withheld his passport under a court order. Mary Grace's body was sent to India to conduct a post mortem, and her body has now been returned to the Maldives.

The police Monday said it is not likely that Mary Grace committed suicide, and it is more likely that she was hit with an object or received an extensive injury at the hands of another person. No further details were divulged.

Mary Grace and her husband have a five-year-old child.
