An agreement has been signed between the Maldives and the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to support climate adaptation projects in the Maldives.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Maldives government by Environment Minister Aminath Shauna and CEO of GCA, Patrick Verkooijen.
The Environment Ministry said GCA would be providing USD 200 million for multiple projects supporting climate change adaptation. Furthermore, the agreement will also provide support in achieving the Maldives' adaptation goals in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, and efforts under the Climate Change Vulnerable Forum, and V20. The financial support provided by GCA will target climate change impacts on agriculture, water resources, and islands.
GCA is an international organization established in 2018 in Rotterdamam, Netherlands, working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support adaptation solutions.
