Murder suspect Sha Alom 'Salim' Mia has been remanded in custody until the end of the trial.
Salim is believed to have murdered Dhangethi entrepreneur Mahmood Aboobakuru last October. The police arrested him on October 16, and the court remanded him in custody for 15 days the following day. Since then, his remand was extended once. The police said the court ordered Salim to be detained until the end of the trial on Tuesday.
The police said they are in the last stages of the investigation into Mahmood's death. The police will seek charges on Salim and forward the case to the Prosecutor General's Office sometime next week, the police said, adding that further information will be disclosed at a later time.
Mahmood, 57, was found murdered inside a well in a house that belonged to his grandmother in Dhangethi on October 13. The police had been searching for him since Friday morning after his family reported him as missing after he failed to return home on the night of October 12. He is believed to have been murdered that night. The police arrested the expatriate, who lived in a house nearby as a caretaker of an elderly person, under a court order after the police found incriminating evidence that links him to Mahmood's death. The police confirmed he had no accomplices.
