Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested Maldives Police Service to provide security to their party office in Male' City.
MDP made the request in a letter addressed to Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed and signed by the party's Chairperson, Hassan Latheef.
Last September, an assault took place at the MDP headquarters, where a staffer at the office, identified as Jazeel, attacked his co-worker on office premises. The injured person was Galolhu South MP, Mikaeel's mother, Mariyam 'Mandhy' Zubair, an employee at the office.
In Latheef's letter to the police, he said the attacker, who is no longer an employee at the office, continues to harass and threaten the office's staff via e-messaging platforms. Printed screenshots of the messages were attached with the letter.
Jazeel was arrested following the assault, and was remanded in custody for 15 days. He was released after the remand period ended.
