An Indian teacher at S. Atoll School has been suspended for speaking against Islam.
The suspended teacher teaches the 8th grade at the school. It has been reported that the teacher spoke blasphemously against Islam and the Quran.
When asked if any action had been taken against the teacher, the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, Ahmed Ali, said the teacher is currently suspended and can have no contact with the school and students during the period of suspension. He assured that the case is being investigated and that a report will be sent to the Education Ministry by the atoll school when the investigation is concluded. Further steps will be taken based n the findings of the report, he said.
