B. Fehendhoo's Harbour Construction project has reached completion.
The project was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in July 2019 for MVR 45.1 million. According to the company, the project reached completion on November 15.
The scope of the project includes 43,500cbm of dredging and excavation along with the construction of a 130-meter long breakwater, 282-meter long revetment, 214-meter quay wall, and a concrete walkway bridge. The agreement also consists of constructing a ramp, interlocking pavements, and installing mooring blocks, navigational masts, and harbor lights.
Fehendhoo, which has a population of just 300 people, faced many difficulties due to the lack of a proper harbor on the island. Goods had to be unloaded at neighboring Goidhoo island, which is in the same lagoon as Fehendhoo. While the harbor has reached completion, the government plans to link Fehendhoo and Goidhoo via a causeway. Funds have been allocated for the project in next year's budget.
