Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be addressing the Maldives Parliament during her upcoming visit to the Maldives.
A special sitting of the Parliament has been scheduled for 11:00 am on December 20, during which members will decide on the Bangladeshi Prime Minister delivering a statement at the Parliament during her official visit to the Maldives. The only other Prime Ministers to have addressed the Maldives Parliament are India's former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, in 2011, and the country's current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on June 18, 2019.
Sheikh Hasina will be arriving in the Maldives on an official visit on December 21. She will undertake official duties from December 21 to 23. Her main focus would be to find a solution to the issue of undocumented Bangladeshi workers in the Maldives and enhance economic ties. It has also been reported that a USD 200 million loan being extended to the Maldives by Bangladesh will be officially announced during the visit.
After concluding the official work, PM Hasina will spend her holiday and celebrate the New Year in the Maldives. She will be staying at a resort in Emboodhoo Falhu, where 17 rooms have been booked for the purpose.
