Prime Minister of Bangladesh Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina has arrived in the Maldives.
Sheikh Hasina is in the Maldives on a state visit at the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. She was received at Velana International Airport by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel.
According to the Foreign Ministry, although PM Hasina arrived in the Maldives on Wednesday, she will begin her official duties on Thursday. A special ceremony will be held at the Republic Square to welcome the Prime Minister. She will also address the Maldives Parliament on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry said the symbolic handover of 13 military vehicles being gifted to the Maldives as a token of friendship between Maldives and Bangladesh will take place during the visit. Additionally, the agreement for the USD 200 million loan requested by the Maldives will be signed during the Prime Minister's visit.
Sheikh Hasina will be meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and additional instruments will be signed between both countries. This includes MoUs on health, education, transfer of prisoners, and on avoidance of dual taxation.
On December 23, PM Hasina will formally conclude the state visit and travel to a resort in Emboodhoo Falhu to spend her vacation. She will depart from the Maldives on December 27.
