COVID-19: Over 500 positive cases in resorts over the past week

Over 500 positive cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Maldives resorts over the past week.

The Maldives' tally has crossed 96,000. Although positive cases in resorts declined for a while, the numbers have started to pick up once again. Over the past 24 hours, 80 cases were recorded in operational resorts.

Positive cases recorded in resorts:

December 26: 42
December 27: 50
December 28: 71
December 29: 60
December 30: 27
December 31: 51
January 1: 66
January 2: 88

Although positive cases are increasing in resorts, neither the Health Protection Agency (HPA) nor the Tourism Ministry have provided details regarding the matter. The name of the resorts and positivity rates have not been disclosed.

The Maldives' daily number of cases has also climbed over the past weeks. The numbers have remained above 100 for the past two weeks. During the period, the most number of cases were recorded on December 29 with 198 cases. January 1 saw 191 cases, and 190 cases were recorded the following day.

The COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives is at 262.
