China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister arrives in Maldives

The State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Yi has arrived in the Maldives on an Official Visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Friday. He was received at the Velana International Airport by Foreign Minister Shahid and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is a part of both countries efforts to strengthen the long-standing bilateral ties and to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China.

During his visit, State Councilor Wang Yi will pay a courtesy call on Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of the Republic of Maldives, and will hold Official Talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.

State Councilor Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Shahid will also witness the signing of a number of key agreements on important areas such as infrastructure development, health, and travel.

China is one of the most important development partners of the Maldives, and has continued to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country in a number of important areas.
