90 percent of students vaccinated against COVID-19

Over 90 percent of students have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The government began the school children vaccination program on August 15, 2021, with 128,600 doses of Pfizer vaccine received through the COVAX facility. The vaccines are being administered to school children between the ages of 12 and 17.

The most recent statistics released by the Education Ministry show 36,029 students from 218 schools have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes 23,106 students from the Greater Male' Area and 12,923 students from the atolls.

While 32,358 students have received both doses, this includes 11,225 students from the Greater Male' Area and 21,133 students from the atolls. The Education Ministry said this is 90.1 percent of all students in the Maldives.

The Education Ministry hopes to vaccinate 40,000 students.
