Kudarikilu residents board up health center's doors

The residents of Kudarikilu island in Baa atoll boarded up the doors of the island's health center on Monday.

President of Kudarikilu Council, Abdul Hannan Abbas, said the island's residents closed the health center's doors in protest of the lack of available services due to the absence of a doctor.

The Council's President said the health center has not had a doctor for the past ten days and that diarrhea and flu are spreading on the island at a fast rate. He said that the island's residents are consulting doctors from Baa Atoll Hospital and Ungoofaaru Hospital online.

'The doctor went on leave ten days ago, and he had requested for leave three months ago. Online consultations sometimes take up to two hours [in waiting time]. Therefore, a substitute should have been arranged,' he said.

Hannan said he was informed that a doctor would be arranged for the health center on Sunday.

Kudarikilu has a population of about 700 people. The island has two positive cases of COVID-19, and ten people are in quarantine.
