Turkish government donates 20,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine

The Turkish government has donated 20,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the Maldives.

The President's Office said the Turkish government offered to donate 20,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines to support the Maldives' COVID-19 inoculation drive.

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has authorized the use of five COVID-19 vaccines. They are China-manufactured Sinopharm, India-manufactured COVISHIELD, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinovaccine. It is unclear when MFDA would approve the use of Sinovac.

As per the latest statistics issued by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 369,551 people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 62,402 people have received an additional booster shot.
