The Elections Commission (EC) has announced the final result of the Komandoo by-election.
The Komandoo by-election was held Saturday, with three candidates vying for the seat. Mohamed Rashid contested from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), along with Moosa Fathuhee from the opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Abdul Hannan Idris from Maldives National Party (MNP). The provisional results showed Rashid won the seat.
The final result announced on Monday showed Rashid received 1,401 votes while Fathuhee won 1,161 votes. Hannan received 323 votes.
Three thousand three hundred nine people were eligible to vote in the Komandoo by-election. A total of 2,932 votes were cast in the election, out of which 2,885 votes were valid.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Old Jamaluddin Building to announce the final result, the President of the Elections Commission, Fuwad Thawfeek, said the election was smooth and according to democratic values. He deemed the election as free and fair.
