The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said the party would win the upcoming Komandoo by-election by a large margin.
The Komandoo seat became vacant when MDP member MP Hussain Waheed passed away on December 14. The Elections Commission has scheduled the constituency's by-election to February 5, 2022.
Mohamed Rashid will be contesting in the by-election on MDP's ticket and has submitted the candidacy papers to the Elections Commission. Speaking to the media after the forms were submitted, MDPs Deputy President Mohamed Shifaz said MDP would carry out a strong campaign for the upcoming election and win the election by a large margin.
'MDP will do whatever it takes to win this election. We will be officially launching [the campaign] for this election,' Shifaz said.
MDP won the Komandoo seat in 2019 with a difference of 332 votes.
MDP's candidate, Rashid, from Sh. Foakaidhoo has served as the President of the Foakaidhoo Council for the past three terms. He is the council's Secretary-General during the current term.
