COVID-19: Cases fall below 1000 for first time in recent weeks

The Maldives' daily COVID-19 numbers have fallen below 1,000 for the first time in 27 days.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s statistics show the Maldives recorded 986 positive cases on Friday. This increases' the archipelago's tally to 156,903/

HPA said 206 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Region, while 596 cases were reported from the atolls. An additional 109 cases were identified from operational resorts.

A total of 3,936 samples were tested on Friday. The positivity rate in the capital city is 16 percent.

Currently, 16,227 COVID-19 cases are in active status. Forty-nine patients are admitted at healthcare facilities. The Maldives' COVID-19 death toll is at 287.
