Commercial operation to Madivaru Airport to begin this week

Commercial operation to Lh. Madivaru Airport will commence on February 18.

MAdivaru Airport will be managed and operated by Island Aviation Service (IAS).

Speaking to AVAS, the company's Deputy Managing Director Aishath Jennifer said an aircraft of the national airline, Maldivian's fleet, will fly to the airport on Friday. Commercial operation will continue from then onwards, she said. She added that the airfare and the flight schedules would be publicized on Tuesday.

Last month, employees were appointed to different positions at the airport in preparation for commencing operation.

The development of the regional airport and City Hotel on Madivaru was contracted to Kureddhu Holdings, a Crown and Champa Company subsidiary, on 29 May 2018. The airport was completed, and the first test flight was operated on December 25, 2021. Island Aviation signed the agreement to operate the airport on January 17.
