Committee approves Asim's appointment as PCB President

The Parliament Committee on State-Owned Enterprises has approved to appoint Asim Mohamed as the President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).

Asim was appointed as the President of the Privatization Board on December 15 last year after the position had been vacant for over a year. Before his appointment, he was the Deputy President of the board. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sought Parliament approval to appoint Asim as the President of the Privatization Board on February 7.

The committee gave its green light to appoint Asim after considering complaints received when the Parliament sought public opinion on Asim and after an interview process. In the committee meeting held Tuesday, 10 out of the 11 members present voted to approve Asim's appointment.

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) was established to carry out privatization, corporatization, monitoring, evaluation, selling of public shares from Government companies, Government shareholding companies, and commercial government businesses. In addition to Asim, Aisath Shazlee, Ali Shafeeu, Mohamed Shareef Yoosuf, Rushaha Ahmed Shareef, and Ali Sujau are on the Privatization Board.
