Direct bus services to Phase II to commence in March

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said direct bus services will commence to Hulhumale' Phase II next month.

MTCC's CEO Adam Azim said bus services would commence directly to Hulhumale' Phase II on March 2. Depending on traffic, an hourly bus will travel between Male' and Phase II until July, after which bus services will be available every 15 minutes.

Currently, those traveling to Hulhumale' Phase II have to stop at Phase I and catch another bus to Phase II, and vice versa. Customers have complained that the lack of a direct bus route to Phase II significantly lengthens their commute.

MTCC extended indirect bus services to Phase II on October 2, 2021. Buses operate to the location every 15 minutes. Although bus services have commenced, the bus stops in the area have not been fully developed.

Recipients of the 7-000 flats issued from the Hiyaa towers under the Hiyaa Housing Scheme began moving into their apartments in August last year. Out of the 6.720 flats issued, over 6,000 flats are occupied.

Bus services to Phase II are available between 5:45 am and 11:45 pm. On Fridays, bus services are suspended between 11:45 pm and 1:45 pm.
