COVID-19: Greater Male' positivity rate remains below ten percent

The COVID-19 positivity rate in the Greater Male' Region has dropped to five percent.

Statistics released by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Thursday show the positivity rate in the capital was at three percent on December 1 and four percent at the beginning of January. However, from January 12 onward, the positivity rate began increasing, reaching 18 percent between then and January 18. Male' City's situation continued to worsen, and the positivity rate climbed to 45 percent between January 26 and February 1. It started declining steadily from February 9 onwards. The rate was at five percent on February 23.

Although the situation in Male has been controlled, the COVID-19 situation in the atolls is still dire. The statistics show the positivity rate in the atolls was at 12 percent in December and the beginning of January. It climbed to 23 percent between January 12 and 18 and 43 percent between January 19 and February 1. On February 2 to 22, an all-time high of 50 percent positivity rate was recorded in the atolls.

Overall, the national sample positivity rate in the Maldives is currently at 20 percent.
