Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has said he would not allow the opposition's 'India Out' movement to hinder Addu City's growth and development.
In a special interview given to AVAS, Nizar said the 'India Out' campaign spearheaded by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom was an attempt to 'boost' the party's political activities and redirect the public's focus.
Noting that Addu residents do not support the 'India Out' movement, he said no major activities or events were carried out under the movement in his city. While two minor events took place under the movement, it did not take off well, he said.
''India In' has garnered more support than PPM's 'India Out' movement. The people of Addu are more aware. [Small] events would not hinder Addu's development in any way,' the mayor said.
Nizar further said he would not allow the movement or any other activity to be detrimental to the southernmost city's development and assured that he would work against such campaigns.
'By this, I do not mean that the Council will take steps to stop the activities,' he added.
The Addu Mayor spoke regarding the India Out movement when development projects aided by the Indian loan assistance are ongoing in Addu. A police training center is also being established in Addu with India's aid.
