Maldives lifts mask mandate; only required in two settings

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the mask mandate across the Maldives.

Authorities made mask-wearing in public settings mandatory on December 2, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has remained in effect until now.

However, following President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's decision to lift the State of Public Health Emergency in the Maldives, HPA revised its COVID-19 guidelines such that mask-wearing is no longer mandatory but advisable.

Mask wearing is still mandatory in two settings: in hospitals and health care centers, and if the COVID-19 positivity rate increases above 20 percent in any island.

HPA said it is advisable to wear masks in risky situations like large gatherings.
