Statistics have shown that the Maldives recorded over 2,300 COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks.
While the State of Public Health Emergency was in effect in the Maldives for the past two years, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) publicized the daily number of COVID-19 cases. However, when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih lifted the emergency state, the agency stopped disclosing daily figures.
After a two-week hiatus, the agency publicized the latest data on COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday. The numbers show 2,342 COVID-19 cases were registered between March 14 and 26. One death was also recorded during this period.
The positive cases include 184 cases from the Greater Male' Area and 1,938 cases from the atolls. The figures show that the spread of the virus in the capital city has declined significantly. The current sample positivity rate for the capital is at four percent, while it is 38 percent for the atolls.
The Maldives has recorded 176,993 positive cases of COVID-19 and 298 deaths to date.
