Ex-Vice Pres Jameel receives death threats

Former Vice President of the Maldives, and the opposition's advisor Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, has received death threats.

Jameel is also the lead counsel for former President Abdulla Abdul GAyyoom in his money laundering cases.

According to President Yameen's legal team, Jameel was speaking to the press outside the Criminal Court on Thursday following a hearing held in Yameen's trial. While he was giving information on the hearing to the media, two people who passed by on a motorcycle threatened him and warned that they would attack Jameel if he were seen elsewhere. One of the men claimed to have a close relationship with the government, they said. The legal team voiced their concern over the incident.

The police have not commented on the incident.
