HDh. Judicial Sector's Chief Magistrate placed under suspension

HDh. Judicial Sector's Chief Magistrate Ali Adam has been suspended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

JSC Monday said Ali Adam was suspended for two weeks for forming an organization and being active in the organization in violation of Article 10 of the Judge's Act and Judges' disciplinary standards. The commission also said he had been negligent in reviewing the circumstance of a dissolved marriage before reconciling the couple.

JSC said the organization formed by the Judge held an event in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, and that the Judge had actively taken part in the event. While the event was promoted on his Facebook account, and while the event could be perceived as political activity by the public, the Judge had stated that the photos and opinions published on his Facebook page were his own, said JSC. His words and actions could also be perceived as politically motivated, which is not fitting for a Judge, said JSC.

Therefore, the Judge has been placed on an unpaid suspension for two weeks, said JSC.

The administration of HDh. Judicial Sector has been handed over to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court's Magistrate Mohamed Ismail for the duration.
